Chain letter hoaxes like this are sort of like viruses, but use human intelligence* to propagate themselves. They don't do any damage apart from eating up network bandwidth and mail server resources. This particular version has been around since February 2008.

* Bad intelligence in this case.

Oh, it's on a Friday evening? That rules out the half-price dim sum at Tai Pan, and I guess a lot of smaller restaurants might be a bit too booked up to accommodate us.

Well yah, that's why I use firefox + noscript + brains when browsing the net

Still though, that chain letter is a hoax, but as Hakkai said, you should always be careful.
