Events

The events are generally listed on our forums, which you can find at mujs.co.uk. The society is organised and ran by the council, whom are elected by members of the society and the council.

Members

Although a student society, non-students and students from other Universities are very welcome to come along and attend events and get involved. We already have quite a base of both student and non-student members.

Library

The society also runs a manga library, consisting of specific bought manga as well as donations from members. It also contains collections of members own items which they wish to lend to fellow members. It is £1 to sign up to the library which enables members to borrow items.

Joining the Society

If you're a student, then you can officially join the society online through the Student Union website. However, non-student members are also welcome to attend events, take part in and join the society in an "unofficial" capacity.

Mailing List

We run a mailing list to keep people up-to-date on events and news in the society. You can sign up to it at the listserv website through the University.

T-Shirts

We currently sell printed t-shirts to any members who are interested, details about them can be found on T-Shirts page.

History

MUJS was founded during the first committee meeting in the (now defunct) Anime Europe internet chat-room at 6pm on August 17, 2003. The first official event was a trip to see Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away at the Manchester Filmworks on September 24, 2003.

Associated Organisations

NanimeW holds monthly meetings showcasing quirky one-off anime films from the likes of Studio 4°C, off-the-wall live-action movies, and Japanese music DJ sets. It is run by MUJS member Geoff Tabbron. In early 2010, an off-shoot of MUJS was born, The University of Manchester Manga Society, created by Christopher Coulton with it's first meeting held on 18 March 2010.
